No these are not the beatles, but the actors in the movie Darjeeling Limited.They do look little bit like Paul , John and third one can pass off as either George or Ringo.These characters in the movie are also on a spiritual trip to India – to rediscover their lost souls or something( Beatles also did something similar). The remarkable thing is that when you watch movies made by the americans or europeans on India you realize that these hapless chaps just don’t get our country.
What is so puzzling about our nation to the person born and brought up in the first world. I would never know since I have been born and brought up in the third world.Third world makes someone from the first world think. Maybe they are trying to learn a few things.That, how can people be relatively happier with so little material comforts. Whatever it is, obviously they are not able to crack it because their movies do not capture nuances of our society at all.
And since they can’t understand our country – it is easy to sell India to the West. Maharishi sold India to the Beatles. Danny Boyle sold India to the Oscars. Gurinder Chadda sold something to someone – it was a little confusing. Deepa Mehta is selling India to the west. Salman Rushdie sold India to the West. It is really a simple idea. Since the average person in the West is clueless about India, he cannot judge the worth of any artistic output which has India as a theme. He would be baffled not by the work but by India and the sly artist can walk away with the credits.
Darjeeling Limited was one hell of an enjoyable movie though.
